It’s time for round two of It’s a Knockout at Gretton House
The team and people we support at our Prader-Willi Syndrome service Gretton House go head-to-head competing in their annual ‘It’s a Knockout’ tournament.
Following the success of last year’s event, Gretton House were excited to complete round 2 of It’s a Knockout this summer. With the people we support victorious last year, our colleagues were determined to be crowned champions this year.
Based on the popular 60’s gameshow, It’s a Knockout is a testimony of skill and strength and involves teams participating in silly games (usually wearing silly costumes!)
Led by activities coordinator Nadine, the support team got together setting up various games and obstacles around the large gardens of Gretton House. Overseen by the people we support, it was clear the sheer excitement and competitiveness that exuded from each and every one – they couldn’t wait to get stuck in!
With setup complete, game faces on and everyone raring to go, the tournament commenced…
Kicking off the event was an assault course on the driveway made from chalk. The people we support and our colleagues hopped, skipped, jumped and laughed their way through the course and everyone did a great job of cheering each other on. Who knew you could have so much fun with a piece of chalk?!
After some light refreshments, the troops hit the garden to take part in the rest of the activities – including relay races, shooting hoops and bending it like Beckham in a penalty shootout.
However, the highlight of the day for all had to be the “bounce them over the line” challenge. Why? You may ask. Picture two grown adults wearing sumo suits trying to “bounce” their opponent over the line. You can only imagine the hysterical laughter that came from the people we support and our colleagues!
The day ended with the grand finale “next doors garden”. This included two messy areas being set up in the grounds and the teams battling it out to make their areas the tidiest – Mrs Hinch eat your heart out! After an hour of laughter and determination it was however the support team at Gretton House who emerged triumphant, becoming 2022’s overriding champions.
What a fantastic way to spend a sunny afternoon, where innovative ideas from our colleagues is yet again nothing short of brilliant! Support Worker Lauren said, “Once again it was great to see the whole house engaging with the day and getting involved – there was a true sense of camaraderie. Even our ladies and gents with poor mobility got themselves emersed in the fun!”
We look forward to hearing all about It’s a Knockout Round 3 next year and will wholeheartedly be cheering on the people we support!
