Princes Trust Volunteers Work With The Links Day Centre
A group of Princes Trust volunteers from Tresham College have responded to a request from the Links Day Centre, near Wellingborough for a makeover. 15 young people with assistance from the Princes Trust and their team leader Samantha Stojanovic, provided support at the centre and agreed the rooms to receive a new look and chose the style and colours for each. The Resource Centre is run by Consensus Support and provides a flexible, inclusive day service supporting greater independence for adults with a learning disability and mild or complex needs. The centre provides a warm and homely environment for adults within the local area to enjoy a broad range of fun and engaging lifestyle activities whilst also offering employment and learning opportunities based on their preferences. People using the centre are encouraged to participate in activities offered at the centre as well as accessing the local community and are active in the running and maintenance of the Centre.
Julie Cariga, manager at the Links Resource Centre said, “I am absolutely delighted that our colleague Vicky Streeton saw and responded to the advert placed by the Princes Trust locally asking for organisations to come forward and volunteer their premises for a makeover. I would like to thank the Princes Trust and all the young students from the college for their support. It has been great fun working with them and a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together benefiting others.”
One of the rooms is used as a sensory room and has received a new coat of paint creating warmth to the room. Murals have also been painted and textured panels have been added to the walls to create a valuable sensory feast for the eyes and hands of those that use the room. The other room to receive some attention has been given a warm feel with a feature wall of burnt orange which was a firm favourite with individuals using this space on a regular basis.
One person using the service said he is really pleased, “It makes the room look nicer, big difference, good to meet new people.”
Another told us, “I think it’s great, wonderful, meeting the different people and it will look fabulous when it’s finished.”
The Princes Trust and Julie of the Links Resource Centre are organising a celebration of the completion of the project for the students of the college and the individuals supported by the centre on Friday 1st April.
Julie says, “This will be our way of saying thank you to the Princes Trust and the students who have worked so hard and closely with those who use this centre for valued activities in their community.”
She continued, “The spaces have been enhanced greatly, much to the enjoyment of individuals supported and the team who work here and has been such a thoroughly enjoyable project to be involved with.”
