Our East of England finalists head to the Great British Care Awards
Consensus are delighted to have 4 shortlisted finalists in 4 categories for the East of England at this year’s Great British Care Awards 2021, which are a series of regional events throughout the UK and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector. The purpose of the awards is to pay tribute to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding excellence within their field of work.
In total Consensus have 12 shortlisted finalists in 7 categories across Great British Care Regional Awards.
The East of England Gala Awards evening, which is taking place on the 28th of October in Peterborough, offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the successes of individuals, teams and businesses throughout the UK – people who really do make a positive impact on people’s lives.

Shining a light on our dedicated Service Managers…
Two of our colleagues have been shortlisted for The Care Home Registered Manager Award. This award demonstrates the Care Home Registered Manager who has demonstrated a high level of expertise together with exceptional skills in managing the complex business of running a care home. A Manager who shows vision in developing person centred care and supporting staff to meet the ever-changing needs of the residents.
Liz Smith – The Gables, East of England
The innovative, person-centred approach demonstrated by Liz, Service Manager of The Gables our residential with nursing service in Ely, Cambridgeshire, has transformed the delivery of care and support in the service and achieved excellent outcomes for individuals and staff. Supported individuals’ families know they can approach Liz with any concerns and she will provide advice and reassurance. For supported individuals, she is a source of joy and love.
Consensus Operations Manager, Simon Potts, says, “Liz is the most dedicated nurse and Service Manager I’ve ever met: nothing comes before the people she supports. She embodies the best in health and social care.”
Sam Almond – The Pines, East of England
Sam Almond, Service Manager of The Pines, our residential service in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk for people with learning disabilities and complex needs, is a testament to the people we support.
Empowering the people we support…
The ‘Putting People First’/ Personalisation Award seeks to recognise a team who have embraced the personalisation agenda and can demonstrate an innovative approach to empowering people to have more control over the support they need in their lives.
At Consensus, we employ some of our supported individuals with learning disabilities, autism and other complex needs, as Quality Checkers who work alongside our Quality Audit team. They are paid employees of Consensus and are an important and integral part of our workforce. Over the last year, the Quality Checkers have made an exceptional contribution to the lives of the individuals we support, ensuring their voice is always at the heart of our continuous improvement initiatives, and taking the lead on projects that support their wellbeing and quality of life and we are delighted that they are finalists for this award.

The Social Care Nurse Award…
This award acknowledges the important role that specialist nurses working in the Care Sector have in promoting the emotional, physical, psychological and social health of the people who they support. The individual should be able to demonstrate how nursing skills integrate with social care.
Liz Smith has also been nominated for this award. Liz has been the service manager at The Gables for the last 11 years and a qualified Nurse since 1973, working in a variety of fields, including emergency nursing. Throughout her career, Liz has always advocated for the people she supports, and her values are exemplary. She is hugely respected by all who know her, from external professionals and her own support team, to the individuals she supports and their families.
