Meet the Manager of Ellsworth House

September 10, 2012

What are your primary responsibilities at Consensus?

My main responsibilities are to ensure the smooth running of Ellsworth House, making sure both the individuals that I support and my staff are happy. I currently have a staff team of 18 and we support 6 individuals with learning disabilities and associated needs such as challenging behaviour, autism and dual diagnosis with mental health. I am here to support them to achieve a fulfilled life, whatever that may involve. As a service manager I strive to run an efficient and well-respected service.

What do you enjoy about your job?

The best part of my job is coming into work each day knowing that each and every day I have the opportunity to make a positive difference to someone’s life.

What is your background and experience?

I have been supporting individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs for 18 years. I qualified as a learning disability nurse in 1999 and have worked in a variety of areas including Accident & Trauma, Nursing Homes and Residential settings.

I am an accredited trainer in Positive Behaviour Management and last year I gained level 5 certification in the Leadership and Management of Care Services.

What would you regard as your biggest achievement?

Professionally – Gaining my nursing qualification.

Personally – Definitely doing a 20,000 ft parachute jump in New Zealand.

Do you live in the local area and if so, how long have you lived there?

I have lived in Bristol for the majority of my life (so I suppose localish!)

Why Consensus?

They are an innovative and forward thinking company. I knew a number of skilled colleagues who were also going to work for the company for the same reason, which reassured me that it was the right decision.

What is your favourite aspect of the local area?

As I said, I live in Bristol so it is lovely to be able to come out and work in the Somerset countryside, with the contrasting cities of Bristol and Bath just a stone’s throw away.
