It’s ‘All About You’, Consensus get animated at Regional Event in Northants

May 8, 2018

Consensus are proud to be participating in this years ‘All About You’ event hosted by Northants Learning Disability Partnership Board and Northamptonshire County Council.

Based on the success of previous years, this year’s conference is all about communication with people with a learning disability. Hosted at the Kettering Conference Centre on the 9th May, the event will run from 12:30 to 2:30pm.

The aim of the event is to provide practical information, advice and guidance about good communication for people with a learning disability. There will be a strong focus on interactive activities.

Two Consensus colleagues based at our office in Northants, rated Outstanding by the CQC are also members of the current Northants LDPB and will be on hand at the event to provide advice, guidance and information on what makes good communication for people with a learning disability.

Situated on our stand will be a professional animator who will endeavour to capture people’s thoughts, views and issues around the theme of communication illustrating these in an easy to understand picture format, highlighting the importance of good communications for people with a learning disability. We will be demonstrating how we use TEACHH and Talking Mats as communication tools with the people we support.

Keeping the event interactive and informative, individuals we support from across Northamptonshire will be doing a drama sketch about communication when going shopping. The sketch features a shop front named Links Grocers where supported individuals will showcase the many varied and different ways in which they communicate when they are searching for buying products.

In addition, we will be showcasing a range of easy read materials that help individuals with a learning disability participate in everyday life including in important activities such as receiving medical treatments or advice and activities they have a legal right to participate in such as voting in local/general elections.

Finally, once the event closes we will share the thoughts gathered by our animator via our website and also back to Northants County Council, giving a representative voice of people in Northants with LD around communication.

Be sure to keep an eye and or ear open for performances from ‘It’s my Life’ and ‘Teamwork Choir’, two organisations actively enjoyed by people we support.

We look forward to welcoming you to our stand at this exciting event.
