Grovelands Farmhouse celebrates ‘Good’ CQC rating
Grovelands Farmhouse, in Godstone, Surrey, is celebrating having been rated as ‘Good’ overall for the second consecutive time under the current ratings system administered by the Care Quality Commission. (CQC)
Grovelands Farmhouse was praised by inspectors, for providing a safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led service, in line with the values of ‘Registering the right support’, including choice, independence and inclusion.
Inspectors reported that the service was committed to providing good care. Staff knew people well and had developed strong, caring relationships with them. The inspector noted that, “Staff were observed showing affection and care to people, chatting in a friendly way and encouraging them to do activities.”
Feedback from relatives was also very positive and included comments such as, “Excellent care and support”, “Extremely supportive” and “Thank you for the tremendous work you do in keeping my relative safe and happy.”
Inspectors said that the service had an empowering culture and people were encouraged to do activities they enjoyed, to develop life skills and supported to do both paid and voluntary jobs. They also noted that “one person had been allocated a new keyworker who was closer in age and had some similar interests to the person.”
A relative said this was, “very good, she has lots of energy and a good approach which encourages [person’s name] – in the last six months [person’s name] has improved.”
The inspectors also found that leaders and the culture they created promoted high quality, person centred care, stating that “the service was consistently managed and well-led by a very committed and motivated manager who had the skills, knowledge and experience needed to run the service.” People and their families were also encouraged to get involved with how the service was run with one relative commenting that the staff were “very, very contactable and very welcoming.”
Suzy Marshall, Service Manager at Grovelands Farmhouse, said, “As a team we always strive to provide high quality, person centred care that empowers the individuals we support to enjoy active and fulfilling lives. We are delighted that this has been reflected in our service being rated as ‘Good’ across all five key areas.”
Grovelands Farmhouse, is a residential care home, consisting of a main building that provides support and accommodation for seven individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism. A separate modern bungalow, called Primrose Bank offers two self-contained flats designed to support two individuals suited to a more independent lifestyle.
