Cheers to seventy years – Andrew celebrates his milestone birthday

October 12, 2022

Andrew, who lives at our specialist Prader-Willi Syndrome service Gretton House, has just celebrated his 70th birthday in style!

Andrew moved into Gretton House in 1985 and has spent an amazing 37 years living there and undeniably charming everyone he meets. Our colleagues who have supported Andrew have all commented on how much of a gentleman he is, how friendly and polite he is and what a pleasure it is knowing him.

Andrew loves all things retro! He has a passion for music and a CD collection that would put most DJ’s to shame, with an eclectic mix of all kinds of genres, although he does have a soft spot for classic 50’s and 60’s tunes. He doesn’t just listen to music, he knows how to groove to it too and attends a local dance group twice a week to show off his moves – without fail he always impresses the rest of the dancers who attend.

When he isn’t dancing and singing, Andrew loves to take part in other activities in the local community. He plays bowls and dominoes at the local day centre and will spend the day visiting model car shops as well as horse riding at the local stables. Andrew is constantly on the go and always willing to try new activities.

Andrew had several ideas on how he wanted to celebrate his milestone birthday, so the support team at Gretton House were quick to put plans in place to make his wishes come true. With the help of support worker Richard, Andrew set off on his adventure…

Their first stop was Coventry Transport Museum, where Andrew had an amazing time looking at all the different cars and deciding which new model to add to his already impressive collection. After exploring the museum, they headed to a local pub so Andrew could enjoy his favourite dinner – a classic British cuisine of fish and chips.

When Andrew arrived home, he was greeted with a special birthday tea and a beautiful birthday cake handmade by Gretton chef and cake decorator extraordinaire Donna, which everyone tucked into and enjoyed thoroughly.

But of course, Andrew didn’t stop the party there – he completed his birthday celebrations by heading to the Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering to watch ‘Rave On!’ – a sensational show about the rise of rock and roll. Playing some of Andrews favourite songs from the 50’s and 60’s, the show took him on a trip down memory lane.

It’s safe to say Andrew had a blast for his 70th Birthday, all of which could not be achieved without the support of the team at Gretton House. Andrew enjoyed his special day so much he is already thinking about how to go even bigger and better for his 80th birthday celebrations! Happy birthday to Andrew, we can’t wait to see where your next adventure takes you.
