Brian stops smoking and sees the benefits
Brian who is supported at Strawberry Fields in Littlehampton is encouraging others to follow his example and stop smoking.
Brian has Prader Willi Syndrome (PWS) and has lived at Strawberry Fields for just over a year. Having been a heavy smoker for over 20 years, he took the drastic decision to quit back in November 2014:
“When I moved to Strawberry Fields in January 2014, I was smoking 23 cigarettes each day, but since November, I have cut down to only 2 per day.
Everyone said that I would find it difficult and I do sometimes get a little cross because I really fancy a cigarette, but all of the staff have really helped me to cope.
Some of them did say that they would join me in giving up, but they haven’t managed it – they just don’t have the will power!”
Although it has been a significant challenge, Brian is now seeing the benefits and is encouraging others to follow his lead and kick the habit:
“The Doctor said that I might put on weight because of giving up smoking, but I have managed to stick to my food and drink. I am not coughing as much and I am able to go for longer walks.
Anyone else who wants to give up smoking should because it does make you feel better in the end!”
