BBQ Fun at Belstead Mews

August 30, 2019

The support team at Belstead Mews, our Children’s and Young Person’s service in Ipswich, pulled out all the stops recently at their annual Summer BBQ to make sure it was extra special for the children they support and all the guests!

The event which was held on Thursday, 15th August, had a fancy-dress theme, with super heroes and Disney princesses’ popular choices.

Lots of people came along to join in the fun, including the families of the children supported at Belstead and supported individuals and colleagues from neighbouring Ipswich services; Norwich Road, Belstead Villa, Mersey Road and Oban Street. Local Commissioners from Essex and Consensus Managing Director, Eddie Morgan also came along to support the event.

No effort had been spared in making the home look amazing for the event, with guested greeted by an archway of pink and blue balloons as they arrived as well as super hero decorations and a huge spread of delicious food.

There was plenty of activities for guests to get involved with, including a bouncy castle, face painting, and a petting zoo with lots of wonderful animals ranging from a domestic hedgehog and skinny pig to a giant rabbit and Shetland pony. There was also a DJ on hand playing music throughout the day.

Belstead Mews is a residential service for children aged 13-18. Recently rated as Outstanding in its latest Ofsted inspection, the aim of the home is to ensure children feel safe and cared for and have a safe place to express themselves as they transition into adulthood.

Pat Haley, Service Manager at Belstead Mews said, “We always look forward to hosting our annual summer BBQ, it’s always lots of fun and the children love getting involved in the preparations and decorating the home on the big day! It is also a great way for the children to enjoy being children; getting dressed up in their favourite costumes and socialising in a safe environment with their families and friends.”
