Positive Behaviour Intervention Team

At a time when many providers are reducing their specialist support teams, Consensus are investing heavily in developing and equipping our team members with the skills they need to thrive in their roles, along with reducing the opportunities for placement breakdowns.

Our Positive Behaviour Intervention Team (PBIT) comprises of care professionals with decades of relevant experience in supporting people who have behaviours that may present challenges. The team is managed by a Lead Behaviour Practitioner and includes four further behaviour practitioners who support services throughout the UK.

The methodology used is ‘Applied Behaviour Analysis’ (ABA) providing Functional Assessment and intervention strategies to reduce challenging behaviours. The team also provides staff advice, support, mentoring and training in Positive Behaviour Support; Autism Spectrum Conditions; Self Injurious Behaviours; Intensive Interaction and TEACCH. In addition, the team supports initial assessments of complex new referrals to Consensus services and transitions to new developments.

The Positive Behaviour Intervention Team’s (PBIT) values are based on a person centred approach and works very closely with the Inclusion Lead who promotes PCP training and supports the PCP champions network. Furthermore, we have a robust approach to clinical governance, led by our Clinical Director, which enables us to go above and beyond what the regulators require. We constantly seek to build on excellence in everything we do.

We have adopted a partnership practice for the development of our new services. Through this approach we are able to deliver innovative support services that meet a real need in the local area.
